Album Review: Rumours

The Cover

Today's album was Rumours, by Fleetwood Mac, a famous British-American rock band. Released in 1977 by Warner Bros (yes you read that right), the album describes an unhappy story with a happy ending. The album sold over 40 million copies worldwide, and had almost a haunting, soft folk sound to it. According to Fleetwood Mac, the band members used cocaine and were high for most of the recordings for this album, and I feel like that attributed to the iconic sound this project had. And although I'm not particularly a rock or folk fan, it was definitely worth the listen.

Tracks That Stood Out

Dreams- There is hardly a person alive who hasn't listened to this song. Whether you've heard it on the radio, or saw a man on tiktok skateboarding with cranberry juice in his hand to it, Dreams is an iconic song. The vocals on this song were impeccable, and it had that whispery haunting sound like the one I mentioned earlier. It's definitely going on one of my playlists.

Don't Stop- Another wildly successful song, Don't Stop really stood out to me. The upbeat song was really catchy and the message was great. It says to never stop thinking about tomorrow, inspiring listeners to plan ahead and not get too focused on what could have been, but rather on what can be. The songs were starting to get slow, but this track picked it all back up.

The Rankings

Overall: 7.5/10- This album has many of Fleetwood's hits, but in my opinion had a few "forgettable tracks". None of it was bad, but I didn't really feel there was a story line, and some of the songs weren't my cup of tea. Whether it was too folky, or a bit too slow, this album is at about a 7-8 for me.

Cover: 7/10-The cover is interesting and intriguing. I don't feel that it matches the sound of the album, but it definitely matches the times, because when I look at this I feel it screams the 1970's. I did like the mysteriousness of the cover, and it made me ask questions about it which is always important for a cover.

Re-Listenability: 7.5/10- I liked the album, and would listen to it again. As a whole, I felt that this classic had a few songs that were low energy for me, but that isn't a bad thing nor does it make me not want to listen to the album again. Fleetwood did a good job with this project, and I'm glad I heard it.

  1. Did you know 'Dreams' made it the top spot in the US on Billboard's Hot 100 in 1977? It's been covered by other bands like the Corrs (my favorite) , but not to be confused with the song by the Cranberries of the same name, also a great song.

  2. I’m such a big fan of Matt’s music
